We believe the improvements to the remote control have been well worth the wait. It won’t look much different on the outside, but the new remote is far superior to the old one!
Before we get into what’s new - we’d like everyone to know what’s still the same (because we are quite proud of this fact) and that is: we assemble SwiftPaws, including the remote, right here in the USA!
Why this is important to you, is that when we get the components of the remote, we still have to put everything together before we can ship them.
We also want you to know that we have been listening to you! We’ve made improvements that we know you are going to love! And we managed to make these improvements while keeping the same plastics – which is why it will still look pretty much the same - this decision has cut weeks, possibly months, off the projected production time! This is a big deal! because we have been just as frustrated and disappointed as you have been (I daresay even more!) when we had to report delays in getting these incredible controllers out to you.
We admit that those first controllers were less than we expected them to be. The disappointing performance and problems were such that we stopped production on them, even though we risked running out of supplies before the new ones would arrive because we just could not in good conscience, keep sending out those controllers which were failing at a 50% rate. We knew we’d be disappointing a lot of customers reporting delay after delay – and we did our very best to provide updates on our progress – but we just had to put quality first, even knowing this risked having more and more customers grow weary of delays and decide not to wait any longer for delivery.
To remain true to our #1 principle, which is the health and happiness of dogs – means we must provide the very best products for you and your furry family members. We had to set our sights on the future, to ensure that SwiftPaws quality is the highest we can offer. We lost months of being able to deliver our product, but we just couldn’t deliver less than the best to you and your pets.
On to What’s New!
There will be no more recharging the controller! It will now come with an CR123A (also called A123) battery (see this article here). It looks like a short AA battery and can be purchased anywhere. It will last about as long as your TV remote battery!
These changes mean the controller is going to be different to work with.
- There will be a single on/off button (pushing it will toggle on and off) with an EXTERNAL LED light!
- The vibration motor has been upgraded so that you will ACTUALLY BE ABLE TO FEEL the vibration!
- It will sync way faster with the drive than the older remote controllers did.
- It will have to be calibrated before use. Don’t worry, it’ll be easy! Just turn it on (pushing the button once) and it will vibrate and the light will flash 3 times. You move the flag (drive) in both directions, first one way, then the other and then you’ll be good to go!
Your SwiftPaws Home will still have that 90 second safety shutdown, however... You will be able to initiate a new play session prior to shutdown! (Yay!) You will be alerted 10 seconds prior to 90 second shutoff. Wherein you can choose whether to stop for a rest or bypass the 90 second shutdown and continue to play! See the video here!
Now, 10 seconds before the 90 second shutoff, your controller will vibrate and the LED light will go from solid green to solid red - within that 10 second time frame of solid red light – you will have to make the conscious decision to press and hold the on/off button for half a second and the LED light will turn green, indicating a new 90 seconds of run time! And you can do this over and over! And, holding the button 1.5 seconds will shut the system down. [question - can you shut the system down any time by holding the button for 1.5 seconds?]
The shutdown is a safety feature to avoid inadvertent harm to your doggo, but you know your dog best. If you have a dynamo that can run for a solid two minutes, or three, now you can bypass that general 90 second shutdown. And you have to be aware that you’re doing it so you won’t accidentally run your dog too hard. Remember - you are the brains behind a SwiftPaws session!
