LiPo Battery Useable Voltage Range

Storage voltage for LiPo batteries is 3.8v per cell - the LiPo battery is most stable at this voltage.

The usable voltage range for a standard LiPo battery cell is 3.2v to 4.2v.
Any lower than 3.2v - the battery may be permanently damaged
Any higher than 4.2v - the battery may be permanently damaged and you increase the risk of a battery bursting into flames.

  • The Home original 11.1v battery has 3 cells (4.2 x 3 = 12.6) so the maximum charge is 12.6v
  • The Home Plus 14.8v battery has 4 cells (4.2 x 4 = 16.8) so the maximum charge is 16.8v

Always use a fire resistant container such as a battery charging bag to charge the LiPo battery.

IMPORTANT: Fully charge the battery before use to assure proper balance of all cells inside the battery.
Note: you may interrupt charging before it reaches full and continue charging later - as long as you don't USE it until it has been fully charged (this may count as a "cycle" - each LiPo battery is good for approximately 300 cycles - but this is not the only factor that determines a battery's overall life expectancy)
It it not recommended to leave the battery on the charger once it’s fully charged. You risk overcharging your LiPo battery, gas can build up inside the battery and can even cause the battery to burst, causing a fire that cannot be put out with water.
The LiPo battery might degrade quickly if charged over 4.2V per cell. If you over charge your LiPo battery it won’t last more than 25-50 recharges. This is compared to its average 150-250 recharge cycles.

CAUTION: The battery should always be allowed to come to room-temperature before charging. Charging a hot or cold battery might delay charging or damage the battery. For best results, charge the battery at temperatures between 50º and 80ºF (10º-30ºC).
