A damaged power switch can often be replaced.

- We recommend sending the drive to SwiftPaws for this repair. We do not charge for labor—only for the parts required. If the switch has been pulled out of the drive, it may have also damaged the internal printed circuit board (PCB). If the PCB needs to be replaced [see note below], the drive will need to be sent to us for repair. We'll evaluate the damage, invoice you for any replacement parts needed, and complete the repair once payment has been received.
- If you prefer, you may purchase a replacement switch and install it yourself. Just let us know when you contact Support. Please note that while replacing the switch yourself does not otherwise void your warranty, the replacement of the switch and any damage resulting from the installation are not covered under warranty.
The switch is pretty simple to replace. It comes as a single unit: the switch, wires, and connector that plugs into the circuit board.
Take care not to damage the connector on the circuit board.
To replace the power switch on your main drive unit:
- Remove the screws on the bottom of your unit
- Slowly lift the case up from the base - the power switch wires are attached to both top and bottom!
- Carefully unplug the switch connector from the circuit board
- Remove the old power switch from the upper case & discard (it is just snapped into place)
- Thread the connector & wires of the new switch through the hole from the outside of the case
- Make sure the O (power off) is facing the bottom of the drive and snap into place
- The wires should be INSIDE the case
- Plug the power switch connector into the circuit board receptacle
- Replace the case and screws.
- You're all set!
Note: As part of our ongoing efforts to improve and modernize our systems, we officially discontinued manufacturing our legacy equipment in mid-2024 and have now sold through all remaining inventory. Unfortunately, we no longer have new legacy PCBs available for purchase.
If you decide to replace the switch yourself, please keep in mind that any damage resulting from the repair would be your responsibility. Replacing the switch does not otherwise void your warranty; however, the replacement of the switch and any damage caused during installation are not covered under warranty.
