If you see a groove worn into the band it suggests that the line tension may be too tight and/or the course may be too large. In extreme cases the line may cut the band in half. This is definitely a sign that adjustments need to be made before permanent damage to the drive occurs. It's important to get the course size and line tension dialed in for optimum performance as damage due to this would be considered misuse and would not be covered under the warranty.
The rubber band should not need to be replaced if everything is dialed in for optimum performance. We do not sell the rubber band separately, but if you need to replace it in the future, look for a 6" (circumference) rubber silicone band wide enough to fill the space on the pulley wheel.
Pulley Rubber Band
If you notice wear, usually a groove, it’s important to immediately adjust the line tension and/or course size as this indicates there is too much strain being put on the motor, which can lead to motor failure.
Line Type
Please only use the provided line or one with a similar breaking point. The break point is an intentional safety feature, and using a stronger, unbreakable line can put excessive stress on the system.
Line Tension
If the line tension is too tight, it can overload the motor and lead to motor failure.

About halfway down, under “Stringing the Course,” there’s a video that explains how to properly adjust line tension.
Course Size
It’s also possible that the course was set up too large for the motor to handle efficiently. Finding the right balance between course size and line tension is key to optimal performance and longevity. Keep in mind that adding additional pulleys may require a reduction in the overall course size to compensate for the added load. The lure may also affect the size of the course - the larger or heavier the lure is, or the more you add will add to the load too. Simply adjust the course size when necessary to keep everything running optimally.
Find your specific maximum course size by setting up a small course first - the line tension should be such that the pulleys would stay in place even if they were not anchored. It may actually even be a little floppy while running. It should be loose enough for the pulley wheel to continue to spin if the line is stepped on or caught. Refer to this link https://swiftpaws.my.canva.site/pounce-get-started for set up instructions.
Once you get a small course running optimally, you may try increasing the course size by tying on more line a few feet at a time, or adding more corners (pulleys) or trying different types of lures - but if you notice a decline in performance or a groove starting to wear into the rubber band, go back to the size that worked best, or removing some corners or going back to lighter, smaller lures, etc.
Battery Care
The rechargeable battery can be damaged if it's allowed to become fully depleted. The battery is not replaceable so if it becomes damage in this way, the entire drive would need to be replaced. This type of damage is not covered under the warranty as it would be considered misuse.
While the drive may be used while plugged in, the battery still needs to be fully charged before beginning play, for best performance. In fact, it may use power faster than it charges while running. For this reason, we recommend charging the drive overnight when not in use so you can start each session with a full battery. Performance may decline as the battery charge level drops. If you notice this - simply stop playing and charge it to full. This can take from 2-4 hours or so.
