Is my battery bad?

If any of the following are true. Do not attempt to charge or use the battery - instead Dispose of LiPo Battery Responsibly

Your battery is bad if:

  • The battery is swollen
  • The battery won't charge
  • The battery won't hold a charge
  • The voltage has ever dropped below the minimum voltage for your particular battery - even once
  • The charger I have shows all zeros (000) 
  • The charger I have shows one or more red lights after charging for an hour.
  • The battery worked great the first time - then more than 3 days later, it won't even charge or hold a charge or power the drive
  • The battery is new and has never been used but I have had it longer than 3 months or longer
  • The battery was charged to full but never used - longer than 3 days
  • The battery was only used a little at first and then stored for longer than 3 months
  • The battery was used and was NOT recharged - and then sat unused for longer than 3 days
  • The battery was used and WAS recharged to maximum capacity - and then sat unused for longer than 3 days
  • The battery was dropped pretty hard and is misshaped
  • The battery has physical damage
  • The battery is around a year old and only lasts a few seconds or minutes.
  • The battery is around a year old and any of the above or below are true. 
  • If you have removed the "wrapper"

Your battery MAY be bad if:

  • Performance has declined
  • The drive won't turn on
  • The drive won't run or only runs a few seconds or so
  • The drive sounds "low voltage" beep code: Two declining-in-tone beeps
  • The charger I have shows one or more red lights after charging for an hour
  • This could be a bad charger - see: Is my charger bad?
  • The battery was in the car or garage, or somewhere else that gets really hot or really cold
  • Do not attempt to charge or use too hot or too cold - wait for the internal temperature to return to normal. See: Operating Temperatures Hot and Cold

If your battery is bad or has physical damage -  do not charge or use it - But Dispose of LiPo Battery Responsibly
