Setting up on hard surfaces such as asphalt is not recommended due to concerns for your dog's comfort and safety. A good rule of thumb is to ask yourself whether you would feel comfortable falling, rolling, or sliding on the surface. If the answer is no, it's probably not an ideal surface for lure coursing.
Lure chasing involves rapid acceleration, navigating turns, changes in direction, and frequent contact with the ground. Performing these activities on asphalt or other hard surfaces can increase the risk of scrapes, joint strain, and other injuries.
If you need to use a hard surface, we recommend adding padding and artificial turf to create a safer play area. You can also use weights to secure the pulleys and drive in locations where staking into the ground is not possible.
