Getting the Best Performance from Chase

Overtaxing can happen for several reasons, or a combination of factors. This doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong! Understanding Chase's limits and making a few simple adjustments can help keep your system running smoothly.

Course Size

  • Maximum: ~100 feet with a straight out-and-back course using one field pulley.
  • With all three field pulleys: ~80 feet measured by the total perimeter or length of the line.

Adding more pulleys increases the load on the system, so you may need to reduce your overall course size.

Line Tension

Chase works best with very light tension. Too much tension puts unnecessary strain on the motor.

  • Set up your course, then unstake the drive.
  • Move the drive forward to loosen the line or backward to tighten it.
  • Aim for just enough tension to barely lift the line without making it taut.
  • If the line slips, tighten it just a little more.

Terrain & Grass

Chase performs best on level ground with short, freshly cut grass. Anything that adds drag can increase the load on the motor.

  • Inclines: Steep slopes can significantly affect performance or prevent the drive from operating. Slight inclines and uneven ground can often be managed by strategically positioning or raising the pulleys.
  • Long or thick grass: Grass can create extra drag as the line and lure move through it. Cut the grass along the course or raise the pulleys so the line and lure travel above the grass.

Type of Lure

Some lures may be too bulky or heavy for Chase to handle comfortably. The "Critters" and other heavier lures can put extra strain on the motor.
If performance declines or you receive an overheat or overload warning in the app, switch back to the lightweight maize flour flags included with your kit.

Quick Tip
When troubleshooting overtaxing, start with a smaller course, lighter line tension, short grass and the included flags. These adjustments can help reduce strain and improve Chase's performance.
