Always include the pigtail!
It is to protect your equipment in the event it gets bumped, or unstaked, or dragged around.
It is designed so that the power cord will disconnect at the pigtail instead of being jerked out of the power port on the device - which would damage the port and circuit board inside the unit - this type of damage would not be covered under warranty.
