Pink band damage can be prevented. It's not about the pink band - it's about preserving the longevity of your equipment.
The line should stay centered on the pulley wheel while it’s moving. If you’re noticing it shifting up or down coming off the pink band - or if it's wearing a groove into the pink band or cut it in half - adjustments to the course setup are in order.
Adjust the pulleys - When setting up the course, walk along the path of the line and check that it runs through the center of each pulley wheel. If needed, you can raise or adjust the pulleys slightly so the line moves smoothly through the middle of each wheel, including the main drive pulley.
If the line is being pulled up or down, or entering/exiting at an angle, simply adjust the pulley height until it runs straight and centered. The idea is to get the drive and field pulleys all on the same plane.
Line tension is another factor to consider - if it's too tight, the line will wear a groove into the pink band or even cut it in half. The real issue here isn't the damage it causes to the pink band - it's the damage it can do to the motor. If the line tension is too tight, the motor must work harder, which in turn can cause it to wear out prematurely. Before you replace the pink band, be sure to clean off the pulley wheel as built-up debris can quickly chew up the pink band.
